If Trisha stayed on the same path would she be safe now?
Do you think the story would have been different if one of the other characters got lost?
What would you do if you were in that situation?
When do you think Trisha will run out of supplies?
Do you think Trisha will be rescued, if so when, if not why not?
Week 1: Person D- Chris
Summary: Todays meeting was a huge success! We discussed about why Trisha didn't tell her Mom that she was going to relive herself. We said she just wanted to get away from the fighting but accidently fell too far behind. Then we thought about why she tried to cut off her mom and pete but it didn't work then we thought bout why she never tried to just follow them. What really surpised us was how she knew to follow the river and she is only 9 years old. Then we discussed many quotes like the first line of the book and what we thought it meant. We then concluded our get together with talking about what food we should bring next week because we forgot to this week. We then concluded our our meeting and left.
Week 2
Week 2: Quotations- Jake M
"I hate this Pete, " almost groaned
"They don't even know i am here. The invisible girl. Thats me."
"Who cares, I am peeing," she said sulkily, and walked a little way down the path."
"Not a single voice." It was as if the trail to the north had been cancelled.
"The drop now was only about 20 feet, no longer sheer- the rock face had become a steep, rubbly slope.
Week 2: Questions
1) Why didn't Trisha retrace her steps back to the trail way earlier when she could have? She didn't because she had thought the shortcut will work.
2) Where do you think the stream will lead her? It is thought she will find a larger stream possibly.
3) Do you think Trisha will encounter any animals through her travels? She will run into some wildlife but nothing harmful.
4) Do you want her to live why or why not? Yes, because she has made it so far and has come such a long way to just perish at the end.
5) How long will it take Trisha to be rescued or to die? Explain. We have given her about two weeks before she dies of starvation.
Week 2: Summary- Dan Corrigan
In this weeks book club meeting, we discussed many things. We discussed what had happened in what we had read and what we think is going to happen next. We talked about how she began to listen to the Red Sox games to listen to Tom Gordon pitch. She looked up to him and how she hillusinated that she was there with him. She was thinking about food and what she wanted as soon as she was found and rescued.
We also talked about what we think is going to happen. We talked about things such as, if we thought she was going to be found and rescued and what happen if she was or if we thought nobody was going to find her and she would die. Another thing is what we thought the stream she was following would lead her to. We discussed the questions and the quotations we had found. This weeks book club was very productive.
Week 3
Week 3: Quotes- Chris D 1) "You can go back anyway--you know the general direction." 2) "'Look Tom,' she said"
3) "Put your arms around me...cuz i gotta get next to you...." sung Trisha
4) "We are the people who follow Tom Gordan"
5) "If i ever get out of this then i will never be able to tell anyone."
Week 3: Questions- Dan Corrigan
1. What is the mood and tone of the book at where we are now in the story?
2. Why do you think that Trisha keeps imagining that there is a wasp creature with her?
3. Do you think if you were in Trisha's position you would keep trying to survive and find away out, or would you just give up and let yourself die?
4. How are the three people that she saw in the woods symbolic to her life?
5. What do you think is going to happen to Trisha? Do you think she will survive and make it out alive, or do you think she is going to die alone in the middle of the woods?
Week 3: Person D- Jake M
My group had a very productive day. We had a compelling discussion about Trisha's life and the situation that she was going through. A huge part of our discussion was what Trisha saw as she was (maybe) hallucinating. Also we talked about the symbolization of what the three things she saw. We all had great points to add to the conversation. Our group leader did a great job at keeping us on task. Dan M. did a great job keeping people on task. Chris found excellent quotes. Dan C. had questions that made us talk for a very long time. I sat there and took note of everything that was happening. Today was very successful!
Week 4
Quotes: Dan Corrigan
" As twilight thickened toward true dark, Trisha came to a rocky open place that looked out over a small blue shadowed valley."
" ' Oh Tom,' she whispered in a trembling voice. ' Oh Tom, look at this. Do you see?' "
" In this dream, her and Tom Gordon were in an od meadow which was now running to bushes and young trees, mostly birches"
"Thris turned in a circle, feeling a dim sense of deja vu but not remembering she had turned exactly the same circle in almost exactly the same place only a few hours ago."
"The God of the Lost had come and drawn a circle around her as if to say, Stay clear-- she is my property.
Questions Jake Matuszewski
What was so symbolic about the three God's that she saw, why does she keep reminding herself of the God of the lost?
Why was Tom Gordon the person that Trisha was imagining, why not someone else?
If you were one of Trisha's parents how would you be handling that situation?
If you were faced with needing to drink stream water like Trisha, would you have done the same? Why or why not?
Explain what Trisha is feeling as she walks alone in the woods? What does she think is watching her?
Summary Dan McLaughlin
Today's discussion was pretty productive. We mainly talked about Jake's questions and what happened in the chapters we read. We also talked about what we think will happen; like if Trisha is going to survive or not, and if not, what would happen to her and what her family would do if they couldn't find her. We also agreed that the questions and quotes were very important to the plot and what is going to happen.
